(AP) ? Democrats have nominated Joe Biden for a second term as vice president, rounding out the ticket headed by President Barack Obama.

Biden was nominated by acclamation Thursday. He and Obama will take on Republican Mitt Romney and his running mate, congressman Paul Ryan, in the general election.

Biden's name was placed in nomination by his son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, who said his father has used three decades of "relationships, experience, respect and goodwill" to help pass legislation and strengthen ties with U.S. allies.

The vice president wiped tears from his eyes as his son spoke.

When Biden joined the ticket in 2008, he brought 36 years of experience in the Senate, working-class roots that help him connect with average voters and a penchant for occasional verbal gaffes.
