SoundCloud streamlines Pro plans, intros a Pro Partner tier for top streamers

SoundCloud streamlines Pro plans, launches a Pro Partner tier for top streamers

There's been concerns that SoundCloud is shifting its attention too quickly toward listeners at the expense of the creators that gave the site its roots. While we can't say that the audio hub is addressing every concern, it's is determined to keep creatives involved with a much simpler Pro strategy. Instead of offering four paid plans based on storage, SoundCloud is scaling back to two: a basic Pro account hosts four hours of sound for either €3 ($4) per month or €29 ($38) per year, while stepping up to €9 ($12) per month or €99 ($129) per year takes the caps off with unlimited hosting. Quite the bargain when unlimited access previously cost €59 ($77) monthly and €500 ($650) yearly, we'd say. If SoundCloud really, truly values your work, it can also invite you to a Pro Partner level that allows custom branding and a "Moving Sound" image slideshow that syncs up with tunes. Just 10 companies have access to this upper echelon, but everyone else can spring for the more down-to-Earth Pro tiers today -- and with the new discounts, that's not a far-fetched possibility.

Sony targets potential iPhone converts with its updated Xperia Transfer software

Sony targets potential iPhone converts with its updated Xperia Transfer softwareSony has released an update to its Xperia Transfer software suit that it offers free of charge to users of its Xperia branded handsets. The latest update looks to seamlessly ease iPhone users over to the Xperia?s Android platform by helping them transfer their content from their iPhone. The software claims to be able to transfer an iPhone?s contacts, messages, calendar entries, notes, bookmarks, and iTunes music.

Is your current phone an iPhone? Use Xperia Transfer in PC Companion or Sony Bridge for Mac to easily transfer your content and contacts to your new Sony device. Note: Xperia Transfer supports the following Sony devices: Xperia V (LT25), Xperia VC, Xperia TX (LT29), Xperia T (LT30), Xperia TL (LT30), Xperia T (LT30), Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZQ.

In order to use the software, you first have to sync your iPhone using iTunes. The Xperia Transfer suite can then presumably access the iPhone?s backup file to extract the relevant information before converting it and transferring it to a format that Sony?s Xperia range of handsets can understand.

HTC updated its Sync Manager software last month to offer the same services as this Sony software and that worked by accessing the iPhone?s backup file. It will be very interesting to see how long it takes Apple to close off this loophole and prevent HTC and Sony from releasing software to entice iPhone users away from the platform.

WaitUntilTheSunset: Brand Spotlights: eShakti review

eShakti are without a doubt, my favourite go-to brand for perfect fitting, classic and wonderfully made fashion. And of course, the fact that all items are available from size 0-36 makes them an absolute star in my eyes. A brand that understands the need for a full range of sizes and caters for the bulk of the population is pretty rare. Let alone at affordable prices and in such a wide range of styles!

I've written about them several times and now have quite a few of their pieces on high rotation (let alone the pieces I've handed on to Suger and Kath!). Being totally customisable, I know I'm always going to get exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe I love the dress but want a different neckline- no worries!!! eShakti have you covered! So when they contacted me about a product review, I more than jumped at the chance!!!

Dress: eShakti (c/o)

Tights: Kmart

Blazer: ASOS Curve

Shoes: swapped at PSFWA

Clutch: a thrift shop find!

I chose this fabulous swan print peter pan collar dress (I would link to it but it appears it was too popular and sold out!). I requested the sleeves to be changed to this cute little cap sleeve style and changed the length to a short-dress. In hindsight, the mini probably wasn't the most practical length and I'll be ordering my dresses in the above the knee length instead in the future.

Size wise, I find their measurements tables more or less spot on. This is a size 3X 24 and it fits perfectly. Comfortable over my bust, nipped in at the waist and relaxed over my hips- like a dream!

I can literally spend hours drooling over the eShakti website. With high stock turn around and constant new items I am always finding new items that I add to my lust-list! Here are a few of the goodies catching my eye at the moment!
?And even better, eShakti have very kindly given me a promo code to share with you guys! So, when you go and check out their website (and no doubt fill up your shopping bag the way I do!), when checking out use this promo code for 20% off! WTNTLTHESN
Promo code for 20% storewide

For shipping to Australia, I use shipito.com, a mail forwarding service in the USA. They are fast and?reasonably?priced and exactly what I need to get my goodies home to Brisbane!

Do you have any favourite items on the eShakti website????

In Venezuela, oil and idealism won't mix forever

Venezuela's oil is too big for major energy companies to ignore and too risky to plunge into. Eventually, post-Ch?vez Venezuela will choose pragmatism over idealism. ?

By Andrew Holland,?Guest blogger / March 9, 2013

An oil worker walks past a drilling rig at an oil well operated by Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA in Morichal in 2011. Venezuela's oil industry has suffered from Hugo Ch?vez's policies. With Mr. Ch?vez gone, pragmatism will eventually trump ideology.

On Tuesday, the government of Venezuela announced that President Hugo Chavez had died from cancer. Recently re-elected, Chavez had long used the country's vast reserves of oil for his "Bolivarian Socialist Revolution." ?His successor will face many challenges in continuing Venezuela's status as a major oil producer, largely due to the legacy of Chavez over the last decade.

Venezuela ranks as the country with the number one, two, or three oil reserves in the world, depending on who's doing the counting, along with Saudi Arabia and Canada. These reserves led the country to be a founding member of OPEC, and one of the petro monopoly's most ardent supporters. However, its oil has more in common with the heavy tar sands oil of Canada than the light, sweet crude of the Persian Gulf. ?Future production in the country will require new investment capital and expertise in the heavy oil of the Orinoco belt.

When Chavez came to power, PdVSA, the national monopoly oil producer, was widely admired as one of the most professional in the world. Over the last decade, however, Chavez has wrung the golden goose to pay for the social spending ?that has underwritten his social programs. The company is showing the stress resulting from poor management and underinvestment.

The Amuay refinery fire in August of 2012, killing 48, was symptomatic of the problems faced by the company. And, in a country in which about 95% of export revenue and 50% of the budget is due to profits from oil, the importance of PdVSA can not be overstated. Perhaps an even stronger symptom of the problems faced by PdVSA was that in September, it was forced to pay contracts with IOUs, not cash. It was widely speculated that the company's coffers were emptied in the lead-up to the October 7 election, in which Chavez was reelected.

Tiffani Thiessen thankful she missed TMZ era

NEW YORK (AP) ? Tiffani Thiessen is probably best known for her role as Kelly Kapowski on "Saved by the Bell," but the actress says she had no idea at that time how popular the teenage sitcom was.

"I mean, I was so young. I was 15 when I started that show," Thiessen, now 39, said in a recent interview.

"I remember Mark-Paul (Gosselaar) and I touring the (United) States and going overseas. ... That was the first time that I realized what an impact that show had when 5,000, 6,000, 10,000 kids were showing up to these malls and these places where we would sit there for hours and do autograph signings and pictures and stuff," she said.

"That's when I was really like, 'Where am I? What is this?' Kids wanted my empty cup of water and, you know, things like that. It was strange. I had to constantly remind myself that what I was doing was a job and I enjoyed my job and I was going back to school and do homework like all these other kids who were sitting here."

"Saved by the Bell," which also starred Mario Lopez and Dustin Diamond, aired from 1989 to 1993.

The show now airs in syndication and remains a part of the pop culture zeitgeist. Jimmy Fallon tried ? unsuccessfully ? to rally the cast for a reunion in 2009. (They did pose for a People magazine cover.) Justin Bieber wore a T-shirt with the likeness of Kelly Kapowski to the MuchMusic Awards in 2011.

Thiessen is grateful that she grew up in the limelight before TMZ and other 24-hour media outlets and gossip blogs came along on the Internet.

"Thank God I missed that. The photographers that would follow us were like for Teen Beat and Bop (magazines)," she said.

She said the limelight got a little more intense with her next big role as Valerie Malone on the '90s romance drama "Beverly Hills, 90210." But it was "nothing like (what) the kids are going through now."

Thiessen credits Aaron Spelling, who was an executive producer of "90210," with giving her an interesting perspective on fame.

"Aaron Spelling said something to me a long time ago that was really interesting," she said. "He said ... movie stars are in big screens and you have to go see them in the theater. TV stars are in people's homes and they feel much more of a connection because you're watching them in your home, and I thought that was really interesting because it was kind of true. A lot of people you know would stop me on the street thinking they went to high school with me."

Thiessen divides her time between Los Angeles, where she lives with her husband and daughter, and New York City, where she films the USA series "White Collar," which aired its season four series finale this week.

Matt Bomer plays former con man Neal Caffrey, who is working with the FBI to catch white-collar criminals. Her character is married to agent Peter Burke, who supervises Caffrey.

"If I wasn't an actor, I probably would be an event planner, which is why my character, Elizabeth, on 'White Collar' is an event planner. It was kind of my idea. Presentation is huge for me. I love throwin' a good party. Absolutely. Like my daughter's birthday last year. I did all the catering, all the food, all the decor and I loved every minute of it. Of course, my husband's like, 'Do we have to do this much?' I just love doing it."

NFL Mock Draft 2013: Todd McShay has New England Patriots drafting UConn CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson

With several players potentially leaving through free agency beginning next week, it's clear that the New England Patriots need help at wide receiver and cornerback. And ESPN draft expert Todd McShay sees it the same way.

In his third mock draft of the year, McShay has the Patriots focusing on the secondary, albeit with a name that we haven't seen to this point. He believes that New England will stay close to home by selecting UConn cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson.

McShay acknowledges that the pick may be a bit of a reach, but he believes Wreh-Wilson (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) would be a solid fit in New England's defense.

"Wreh-Wilson, who has come on strong in the draft process, could be a nice fit here. Most don't have him in the first round, and he might not go this early after running the 40 in the 4.5-second range at combine.

"But we think he's an underrated talent with size, body control, instincts and toughness against the run. He's just a really good football player. Also, he was selected as a team captain both as a junior and senior and was well respected by coaches and teammates. He's also extremely intelligent and accountable, and possesses a good work ethic."

Wreh-Wilson, a four-year player, recorded 131 tackles and eight interceptions during his four years at UConn. He ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at the combine and had a 36-inch vertical jump.?

Radio 3 Live in Concert: Live from St Mary's Church, Shrewsbury: Orchestral Suites Nos 4 and 2

Live from St. Mary's Church, Shrewsbury

Presented by Tom McKinney

As part of Radio 3's Baroque Spring, The Academy of Ancient Music, directed from the harpsichord by Richard Egarr, performs Bach's Orchestral Suites - a series of grand and graceful dances, paying homage to the French baroque style as championed by the ballet-obsessed King Louis XIV. Written during Bach's years in Leipzig, where he had a wider range of instruments at his disposal than ever before, the Suites revel in new sonorous possibilities and employ varied combinations of wind, brass, stringed instruments and timpani.
